You probably remember the articles we worked with last year and the discussions you had afterwards. We will work the same way this year. You will get 2 1/2 lessons to work on this so get started!
In your group, divide the articles among you. Two people in the same group can't read the same article.
Assignment:
- Read your article carefully.
- Make a wordlist of the words you don’t understand.
- Make sure you understand the article.
- Write a summary of the article in English in your own words.
- Practise explaining in English what your article is about.
- Prepare questions to discuss. You can use the questions below but feel free to come up with more. What is your opinion?
- Present your article in a small group and lead a discussion. (Record your discussion and share with me.)
OBS! Articles 1 and 2 are both about equality, but in different ways.

Why it’s time to celebrate Sweden’s diverse identity? (Quite hard)
- What does “equality” mean to you?
- Is it important to be equal?
- The writer states that we make a mistake when we equate “sameness” to “equality. Is that so?
- What is Swedish culture? What Swedeish holidays would it be possible to live without?
- What kind of society do you want?

- Why did the parents do this?
- Do you think it’s a good idea?
- What kind of trouble did they encounter?
- Would this be possible in Sweden?
- Do we treat baby boys and girls differently?

- Is this true that the article is about?
- How do you do when you meet somebody?
- How do you feel about different greetings?
- Do you write “kram” in your texts, emails,...?

- Is it good to have a royal family?
- How about Sweden? What do you know about our royal family?
- Are the Swedish members of our royal family important to Sweden? How?
- Would it be better if we didn’t have any royal family?
Article 8
Cartoonists are sad and mad, about the attack on a French paper (easy-hard)

- Do you draw pictures or scribble to express yourselves?
- How/in what ways can a pen be more powerful than a gun?
- It’s sometimes said that words can hurt more than if you get hit. How is that?
- Can you say that what happened has anything to do with religion?
- A lot of newspapers close down and fire a lot of journalists. What effect will that have on democracy if nobody reports what happens?
