I will divide you into reading groups. You will be about four students in each group. If you want to, you can divide the chapters among you or read all of it. You decide in your group. Everybody doesn't have to read ALL the chapters, BUT everybody has to read at least ONE chapter every week and pick out his/her personal words (20 each week) and learn them.
Every Friday we will have a check-up on your words and book talk in your reading groups. You have to prepare for your book talk by having a look at the questions for each chapter. You find the questions in google classroom. At google classroom you also find wordlists I have made to every chapter to help you.
When you have your book talk, you have to tell the others about the chapter(s) you have read so that you can answer the questions together. You will find the questions at google classroom. You hand in your answers to the questions every Friday after your book talk. Help each other to fill it in.
When you read your book, this is how I want you to do it:
Read through the wordlist to the chapter you are about to read. Notice the words that you know already and choose other words for your own twenty words. Write your 20 words down. Glosor.eu is one good site for working with words, but you can use a pen and a paper too, if you want to. (There are other sites too.) Now it's time to start reading. Have my wordlist close to you while you read your chapter and look at the words that you need to know to understand the text.
So...
- Wednesdays: Reading and working with words/questions in the classroom.
- Thursdays: Watching Holly's Heroes
- Fridays: Check-up + book talk + fill in work book together.
Your homework is to finish your reading, prepare for the book talk and study your words.
